ZRA Leading the Way in Social Inclusion: PWDs Have Equal Opportunities
In an era where diversity and inclusion are increasingly recognized as essential components of organizational success, the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) stands out as a beacon of social inclusivity and equal opportunity. With a firm commitment to fostering a workplace environment that embraces the unique abilities and talents of all individuals, ZRA is setting a commendable example for institutions across the country.
Recognizing the importance of inclusivity, ZRA has implemented policies and initiatives to ensure that persons with disabilities (PWDs) have equal opportunities within the organization. As part of its recruitment processes, ZRA prioritizes diversity and actively seeks to provide a supportive environment for differently-abled individuals to thrive and contribute meaningfully to the workforce.
Currently, ZRA proudly employs six individuals with disabilities, reflecting its dedication to creating a diverse and inclusive workforce. Moreover, the Authority has forged a partnership with the Zambia Agency of Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD) to further enhance its social inclusivity initiatives. By collaborating with ZAPD, ZRA aims to continuously improve its practices and become a trailblazer in promoting diversity and inclusivity within the workplace.
One notable step taken by ZRA is the incorporation of sign language interpreters in its taxpayer education programs, ensuring that individuals with hearing impairments can access vital information and services. Additionally, ZRA is working towards translating its informational materials into braille, further enhancing accessibility for individuals with visual impairments.
The commendable efforts of ZRA have not gone unnoticed, as evidenced by the praise from ZAPD Board Chairperson, Moses Luneta. Mr. Luneta commended ZRA for its commitment to diversity and inclusivity, emphasizing the importance of equal opportunities in employment. He highlighted ZRA's role as a key stakeholder in promoting and monitoring equal opportunities, urging other institutions, particularly in the private sector, to emulate its example.
Mr. Luneta emphasized the invaluable contributions that persons with disabilities bring to the workplace, citing their motivation and unique skill sets as assets to be celebrated and leveraged. By embracing diversity and inclusivity, ZRA is not only fulfilling its mandate but also enriching its workforce with a range of perspectives and experiences.
Moving forward, ZRA remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that persons living with disabilities have the opportunity to participate fully in the social and economic activities of the nation. Through continued collaboration with stakeholders and the implementation of inclusive policies, ZRA is leading the way towards a more equitable and inclusive society for all.
