Zambia Revenue Authority Spearheads Smart Invoice Sensitization Drive

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has embarked on a nation-wide Smart Invoice sensitization drive, engaging with various stakeholders across the country to promote tax compliance and improve customer experience. This week, the Authority held discussions with two key stakeholders in Livingstone, where Smart Invoice took center stage of the discussions.

One presentation was delivered at the Zambia Institute of Strategic Management conference held at the Chrisma Hotel, while another took place at the Inf
ormation and Communications Technology Association of Zambia (ICTAZ) conference hosted at Avani Hotel.

Harrison Chapu, ZRA's Acting Director of Innovation and Project Management, led the presentations, highlighting the Authority’s innovation drive aimed at streamlining tax compliance processes and enhancing customer satisfaction. Smart Invoice, an electronic invoicing mechanism, was the focal point of the discussions.

Chapu emphasized that Smart Invoice is designed to be compatible with various invoicing systems used by taxpayers and can be seamlessly integrated into different ICT devices, including mobile phones. This innovative approach aims to simplify the invoicing process, making it more efficient and convenient for taxpayers while ensuring compliance with tax regulations.

The Smart Invoice sensitization drive underscores ZRA's commitment to leveraging technology to modernize tax administration and enhance service delivery. By engaging with stakeholders and promoting awareness of innovative solutions like Smart Invoice, the Authority seeks to empower taxpayers, foster compliance, and contribute to the country's economic development.

ZRA INTERCEPTS SMUGGLED ALCOHOL MASQUERADING AS RICE AND KAPENTA IN KAPIRI MPOSHI

In a major breakthrough against smuggling and tax evasion, the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has intercepted two trucks in Kapiri Mposhi carrying concealed alcoholic beverages disguised as rice, kapenta, and shoes. One of the trucks, with a horsepower of 380, had just 185 kilometers left to complete its 1,100 kilometer journey from Nakonde to Lusaka when alert ZRA officers at the Kapiri checkpoint uncovered the hidden cargo. What had been declared at the Nakonde border as a consignment of rice and kapenta turned out to be boxes of undeclared alcohol. In a separate but similar case, another truck claiming to be transporting shoes was also found to be carrying concealed alcohol.
