United Kwacha Alliance to Fundraise for Suspended MP, Calls for Accountability
The United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) has announced plans to raise funds for Honorable Jean Chisenga, Member of Parliament for Mambilima Constituency, who was suspended for remarks directed at President Hakainde Hichilema.
The UKA asserts that Hon. Chisenga's suspension stems from her expression of sentiments shared by many Zambians, who feel misled by the President's promises. As part of their campaign, UKA has highlighted several unfulfilled promises made by President Hichilema, including the affordability of mealie meal, fuel, electricity tariffs, and fertilizer, among others.
The alliance stands in solidarity with Hon. Chisenga and urges Speaker Nelly Mutti to ensure the fair conduct of parliamentary proceedings without intimidation. Furthermore, UKA calls on President Hichilema to apologize to the Zambian people for the alleged misrepresentations.
Expressing disappointment in the perceived increase in parliamentary suspensions under Speaker Mutti's tenure, UKA voices concerns over the alleged disregard for parliamentary procedures and democratic principles. To demonstrate their support for Hon. Chisenga, UKA has initiated a fundraising campaign to cover her monthly parliamentary income during her suspension.
Already, the alliance has raised K5,000, calling on all UKA members, sympathizers, supporters, and Zambians advocating for justice and fairness to contribute to the cause. The fundraising initiative aims to protect Zambia's democracy and hold leaders accountable for their actions and promises.
