Born on the auspicious day of January 1st, 1995, in the bustling city of Kitwe, Zambia, Gilbert Chulu embarked on a journey marked by resilience, determination, and an unwavering commitment to defy the odds. From humble beginnings to soaring heights, his story serves as a testament to the boundless potential within every young person, regardless of their circumstances.

Gilbert's early years were shaped by transitions and challenges, yet he approached each hurdle with a spirit of perseverance. From Grade 1 to 5, he attended Muchinga Basic School in Zingalume, laying the foundation for his academic journey. However, tragedy struck in 2007 when his beloved mother passed away, prompting a move to Mpulungu.

In Mpulungu, he continued his education at Nyumukolo Basic School, navigating the complexities of grief while striving for academic excellence. Despite the upheaval in his personal life, he remained steadfast in his pursuit of knowledge, completing Grade 6 to 7 with determination and resilience.

The quest for educational opportunities led Gilbert to Blue Nile Private School in Lusaka, where he completed Grade 8 to 9, broadening his horizons and embracing new experiences. His thirst for learning knew no bounds, propelling him to finish high school at Chunga, where he laid the groundwork for his future endeavors.

Armed with a diverse skill set and a thirst for success, Gilbert pursued further education, earning diplomas in Sales and Marketing, Records Management with Cygest UK, and mastering the art of photography, carpentry, videography, and entrepreneurship. His insatiable curiosity and willingness to embrace new challenges propelled him into the corporate world, where he honed his skills over seven years in various organizations.

Yet, Gilbert's entrepreneurial spirit burned brightly within him, leading him to establish Kingfisher Zambia and Devine Fortress Designs, ventures that showcased his creativity and ingenuity. However, it was his foray into the world of Salaula distribution that truly set him apart. For seven years, he immersed himself in the intricacies of the business, serving as a bridge between the UK, China, Korea, and Zambia.

As we celebrate this year's Youth with the theme of embracing change, Gilbert's story stands as a beacon of inspiration for young people everywhere. His journey from adversity to achievement demonstrates that one's background does not determine their destiny. Through hard work, perseverance, and a willingness to seize opportunities, Gilbert has shattered barriers and blazed a trail of success.

ZRA INTERCEPTS SMUGGLED ALCOHOL MASQUERADING AS RICE AND KAPENTA IN KAPIRI MPOSHI

In a major breakthrough against smuggling and tax evasion, the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has intercepted two trucks in Kapiri Mposhi carrying concealed alcoholic beverages disguised as rice, kapenta, and shoes. One of the trucks, with a horsepower of 380, had just 185 kilometers left to complete its 1,100 kilometer journey from Nakonde to Lusaka when alert ZRA officers at the Kapiri checkpoint uncovered the hidden cargo. What had been declared at the Nakonde border as a consignment of rice and kapenta turned out to be boxes of undeclared alcohol. In a separate but similar case, another truck claiming to be transporting shoes was also found to be carrying concealed alcohol.
